The 2014 Summing-up
meeting of Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network of Chinese side was held
in Beijing from December 11th to 12th. Director Wang Jinbiao, from Department of
International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), attended the meeting
and delivered a speech. Professor Tong Yanan, on behalf of SAIN Secretariat
(China), summarized the work being done in 2014, and the four working groups
reported the project progress and future work plans.

Jinbiao expressed full recognition for SAIN achievements in recent years and put
forward the practical suggestions on SAIN development under the new environment.
He stressed that, in order to deepen the UK-China cooperation, the two countries
would actively promote the construction of high-level interaction with a new
cooperation mechanism, and SAIN should be actively involved in the new mechanism
in order to strive for more resources to achieve SAIN sustainable development.
Director Wang also suggested to strengthening multilateral cooperation, new
project application involving the third party beneficiary as far as
possible.
At the meeting,
participants discussed problems such as SAIN’s challenges under the new
environment, SAIN positioning, new project application, SAIN sustainable
development. Professor Tong encouraged the working groups should not be limited
by SAIN, should broaden their horizons to seek more cooperation opportunities
for collaboration within and outside SAIN, thereby expanding SAIN extension and
accelerating its development. Participants generally agreed to strengthen
academic exchange visits with Britain and organize more achievement exchanging
meetings.
In order to prepare
for the fourth SAIN Governing Board meeting next year, the conference also made
the following work:
1 The
Secretariat and working groups continue to improve Achievements Compilation from
last 5 years, and all working groups keep on increasing the content of the
results and working photographs. This work was completed at the end of
February.
2 To
strengthen SAIN social propaganda, SAIN continue published SAIN scientific and
technological achievements in the "News paper of Agricultural Science and
Technology". All working groups continue to contribute, in the language
appropriate to be published in the newspapers. The publishing manuscript should
be send to the secretariat at the end of March from each working group.
3 At
present, only one project is in the implementation. Each working group should
submit 2 project proposals for approval in the fourth SAIN Governing Board
meeting next year. The project should be involved the interests of developing
countries in Africa, Southeast Asia as far as possible. It’s necessary for each
working group to consult the project with the British experts and submit the
project proposals to the secretariat at the end of February.
4 It’s
recommended that China Secretariat and British should communicate with each
other to find out whether the published papers of SAIN project hang " UK-China
Sustainable Agriculture Innovation Network " funding, otherwise how to reflect
and expand the social impact of SAIN.
